Straight Talking

Your Website Says St Helens. Your Van Goes Further.

Hardly any St Helens business works only in St Helens. You are out at Haydock one day and Newton-le-Willows the next, taking jobs in Rainhill, Prescot, Billinge and Eccleston, and probably going as far as Warrington or Wigan when it is worth the run. If your website only ever mentions St Helens, you are quietly declining most of that. Somebody in Rainhill searching for a joiner will not find you, because nothing on the site tells Google you go there. It is the single most common thing wrong with local trade websites, and it costs nothing to fix properly at the build stage.
The Build
Designed and built by me from scratch, five pages as standard and more if you need them Every area you cover named properly, in the copy and in the page titles Built to load fast on a phone, which is where most of these searches happen Page titles, structure and sitemap set up for Google from day one
And Then
Help with the words, including how to write them for search Changes until you are happy, not a fixed two rounds Built on WordPress, so you can log in and change things yourself Usually live inside a week of starting
A word of warning on that, though. Naming your areas means writing about them properly, not pasting a list of two hundred town names at the bottom of every page. That was a tactic fifteen years ago and now it does more harm than good.
The Design

What Website Design Actually Involves

At this price the fair question is whether you are getting a template with your logo dropped on the top. You are not, and it is worth explaining what you are getting instead.
Structure First
I work out what the site has to say and in what order before anything gets designed. Which pages exist, what sits at the top of each one, and what a stranger needs to know before they will pick up the phone. Most small business websites go wrong here rather than in the design. They look perfectly smart and they bury the one thing the visitor came for. It is also what decides how Google reads the site. Page titles, headings and the way it is put together are structural decisions, not something added at the end.
Then the Design
Type, colour and spacing chosen to suit your trade rather than whatever a theme arrived with. A roofer and a beauty room should not end up with the same website in different colours, and they will not. Designed for a phone first, since that is where most people will see it, then built upwards from there. Speed is a design decision too. Image sizes, how much sits on a page, how many things load before anything appears. Sorting that during the build is why it comes out fast rather than needing a plugin to rescue it later.
You see it on a private link before anybody else does, and I keep going until you are happy rather than stopping at a set number of rounds. Already have a site that needs replacing rather than building? That is a redesign and it costs the same.

Not St Helens Yet, but Not Far Off

I will be straight with you: I have not built for a St Helens business yet. I have built plenty a few miles either side of it, for exactly the sort of businesses this page is aimed at. LRM UPVC do door and window repairs around Widnes, where most enquiries come from somebody stood outside their own front door with a phone in their hand. Northwest Comms are an ex-BT telephone and broadband engineer covering the whole area. Dick’s Bean Bar is a coffee shop and roaster in Warrington selling beans online as well as over the counter. Same work, same price, and I would rather tell you that than dress up a stock photo of the Beecham Tower as local knowledge.

Questions

St Helens Web Design Questions

No. I work from Wallasey on the Wirral, which is about half an hour away, and I already look after businesses in Widnes and Warrington. Being a drive rather than round the corner has never once mattered to the work.
The ones you genuinely work in, written about properly. Half a dozen done well beats two hundred in a list at the bottom of the page, which Google has ignored for years and which makes a site look cheap.
Plenty. Locksmiths, joiners, electricians, plumbers, engineers. The brief is nearly always the same: load fast on a phone, say clearly what you do and where you cover, and make the number impossible to miss.
Yes, if you would rather. St Helens is an easy run and a coffee costs nothing. Equally, if you would sooner do the lot by email and never have a meeting, that is completely fine.
The site will be built so it can, with proper structure, fast loading and your areas set out clearly. Nobody can promise a position, because that depends on who else is competing and on work done over time rather than on the build alone.
Common, and usually fixable. If it is sound I will take it over from £35 a month and move it across for nothing. If it is past saving I will tell you that instead of charging you to maintain something that should be replaced.
