Why It Matters

Why Google Reviews Matter for Local Businesses

Reviews aren’t just nice to have. They affect whether you’re seen, whether you’re trusted and whether you get the call.

Help You Show Up Locally

Reviews are one of the things Google looks at when deciding which local businesses to show, especially in the map results.

Build Trust Before They Call

Most people check reviews before choosing a local business. A steady stream of good ones makes the decision easy.

Your star rating appears right next to your name on Google, so a strong rating catches the eye before anyone clicks.

Tell You What’s Working

Reviews show you what customers value most, and give you the words to use on your own website.

How to Ask

Simple Ways to Ask for a Google Review

Most happy customers are glad to leave a review. They just need asking at the right moment, with a link that makes it easy. Copy these and make them your own.

By WhatsApp or Text

Hi Sarah, thanks so much for choosing us. If you have a minute, a quick Google review would really help a small business like ours: (your link)

By Email

Thank you for choosing us. We’d love to hear how we did. If you have a moment, you can leave a quick Google review here: (your link). It only takes a minute and it makes a big difference to us.

In Person

“Really glad you’re happy with it. If you get a minute, would you mind leaving us a Google review? This card has a QR code that takes you straight there.”

Staying Within the Rules

Google Review Dos and Don’ts

Getting more reviews is simple, but a few common shortcuts can land you in trouble with Google.

Do

  • Ask soon after the job, while it’s fresh
  • Make it easy with a direct link or QR code
  • Reply to every review, good or bad
  • Ask every happy customer, not just a few

Don’t

Offering discounts or gifts for reviews. It’s against Google’s policies and can get reviews removed.

Only asking customers you think are happy. Filtering who gets asked breaks Google’s rules too.

Writing reviews yourself or buying them. Fake reviews can get your profile suspended.

Arguing with bad reviews. A calm, professional reply matters more to readers than the review itself.
